Card payments with Mollie Tap

With Mollie Tap, your phone is the card terminal. The POS sends the amount to it, the customer taps their card or phone on yours, and the POS turns green by itself. Nobody types the amount twice. A Mollie card terminal works the same way.

What you need

• Your shop connected to Mollie, with Mollie's account setup finished. See Connect Mollie.
• The Mollie Tap app from the App Store or Google Play, on a phone with NFC. Mollie asks for an iPhone on iOS 16.4 or later, or Android 11 or later with Google Play services.
• Your Mollie account in live mode. Mollie does not pair phones or terminals in test mode.

Set it up once

1. In the admin, go to Apps and open Mollie.
2. Under Card terminals, press Pair a phone or terminal. A QR code and a code appear.
3. Open the Mollie Tap app on your phone and scan the QR code. On a Mollie terminal, type the code instead. The code works for 90 days and for more than one device.
4. Your phone shows up under Card terminals, for example "Tap on iPhone". It may say pending for a moment before it is ready.

At the counter

1. Build the order and press Pay.
2. Card says which device it goes to, for example "On Tap on iPhone". Press it.
3. The customer taps their card or phone on your phone. The POS turns green by itself when Mollie says the payment went through.

With more than one phone or terminal, pick the one under Card on. Ripshop remembers your choice for you.

Did the Mollie device run flat, or did the customer pay on another terminal you have? Press Another terminal on the Pay page. The POS then only writes down that the card was paid.

Cancel, back to checkout stops a payment that has not gone through yet. The products go back on the shelf.

When it does not work

• Card says "On the terminal". No phone or terminal is ready yet. Check Apps, Mollie, Card terminals.
• "Mollie makes pairing codes in live mode only." Your shop is paying in test mode. Pairing needs live mode.
• Mollie says your organization is not eligible. Mollie's account setup is not finished yet. Finish it at Mollie, then pair again.

Commission

A card payment on Mollie Tap or a Mollie terminal goes through Mollie, like a QR payment, so it carries the Ripshop commission. Cash, and a card written down with Another terminal, do not. See your subscription.
